dsc turns back on

It was raining very hard one day last week and my dsc was off as I usually keep it, and I lost traction, a bit of excessive throttle, the dsc light went out, got back in shape and then the light turned back on... anyone know what the deal is with this? I can't seem to figure this out.

See if you can make it happen again, safely of course . Could of just been a fluke if anything.

ok, did it again today, these are the conditions, if I launch and lose traction it turns back on until i'm moving again, then it turns back off and will not assist anymore... maybe is some kind of snow mode or launch control for poor traction conditions that kicks in... but I know it does not turn completely off....... is this the case for anyone else?

If your wheels lose traction at all, it automatically comes on, but will go off as soon as control is restored.

It was probably the traction control (ASC) turning on, which operates separately from the DSC. DSC is the system that can operate each brake individually. ASC reduces power when wheel slippage is detected. There was some discussion here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post1360959

Edit: reading through the other thread more carefully, it seems that turning off DSC should also turn off ASC. I'm not sure why it's behaving as it does in your case.

maybe your car just isnt into going slideways?

i would think that shutting down the DSC would aslo shut down the ASC

Did any other lights go on like the low tire pressure light? When my front wheel sensor went bad (intermittent) it would turn my DSC on and off.

no other lights, i really think this is a case of not being able to completely defeat the DSC/DTC/ASC system on a mini the way it works on a BMW

Hmm, sounds like something is wrong. On my 2006 MCS I always drive with DSC off and it stays off. That includes on the street, in snow, autox and track days and I've never had the DSC come back on by itself except when that wheel speed sensor was bad. Hope you get it sorted out.

There is only one way to completely defeat DSC on the R53. That is remove the ABS fuse. You will also loose your speedo though. no ABS/speedo or DSC because the ABS module runs the DSC program. Likely you have something wrong electronically. Once the DSC is turned off, it is off. only a very basic monitoring system stays on when this is off. Even in a wild crazy event the DSC should not turn itself on then off. Possible fault that corrects itself (loose connection hint hint) or failing sensor can cause these types of conditions to occur.

Good luck with the hunt.

and months later the problem continues, seems that the wet is the only factor that affects anything, looks like ive got a loose connection somewhere, hopefully I dont have to buy all new sensors :(

different question, is there a way to completely disable ABS pump so it stops interfering, without losing speedo funcions?
I don't mind lights galore on my dash as this can be easily fixed wiht some electrical tape but i would hate to lose the speedo and subsequently gas gauge from what I've noticed after pulling the fuse.

If i disconnect the pump by unplugging the harness, I get the same thing as the master ABS fuse pull but as mentioned above it's not desireable due to the speedo issue.
