Scoops with Heatshields Feedback?
Scoops with Heatshields Feedback?
We've been using and selling many different turbo heatshields for awhile now. So now I'd like to hear from YOU. So if you have bought a turbo heatshield such as the M7, NM titanium, or our WMW wrap I want you to post in this thread. But rather than this being just another thread on scoops melting please ONLY POST IF YOU HAVE A HEATSHIELD. Please post the following:
1. year of your car
2 What heatshield you have
3 How many miles you've had it on your car
4 How long you've had it on your car
5 Has your hoodscoop melted since install????
Please lets keep this to data only, rather than a long discussion that goes nowhere. I'm going to post this a couple other places just to get more data. This way we will actually know how effective each heatshield is

I have a 2010 MCCS purchased new on Memorial Day Weekend.
I had the car for about 3-4 weeks when a friend burned his hand on the hood of my car. I used a laser thermometer to check and the temp. near the scoop and it was almost 300 degrees!
I installed an M7 Aerogel Turbo Heatshield and an M7 Ram scoop and I don't have the hot hood problem anymore. I have had both the M7 Scoop and heatshield for about 10 weeks and 3,000 miles now.

Just curious for numbers
After the Heatshield
Good question Bigprfed22. I drove to work today (28 miles) at a very sporty pace and I checked the hood with my hand. I am able to lay my hand on the hood scoop (the M7 Ram-2) which is fairly cool and anywhere else on the hood and keep it there for any amount of time. The hood is warm but not what I would call hot. Before the heatshield you couldn't touch let alone place your hand on the scoop or hood. I would say the M7 heatshield does a very good job.

Yes, I understand that this thread has been inactive for a couple of weeks but since no one with an NM Engineering heat shield has weighed in yet I guess I'll be the first to do so.
1. 2010
2. NM Engineering
3. About 3700 miles
4. Around 5 months (I don't have to go very far to get anywhere I need to be
)
5. I haven't noticed any distortion or melting, but I'll admit I sometimes feel the scoop is a bit hotter then I'd like.
PS: I just saw the new WMW hood heat shield. Maybe I'll put that on too at some point and see how that goes

Had a factory heat insulation shield installed under my new scoop (MINI just came out with this shield recently) on my '09 JCW - can say the front of the car is not hot anymore. Now it's the upper part of the hood that heats up instead.
Just out of curiosity, what do these heat shields look like? I bought my JCW used, a year old, and it has some kind of insulation-like material under the hood, around the scoop. The stuff looks like it's been there since the car was built, but I can't say that with certainty.
I'm wondering if the previous owner already had a heat shield installed; or if MINI has something to retrofit now, whether I need to look into it before the warranty runs out...?

Thanks for the photo; makes everything clear now. Mine has the black, felt-like insulating material, but not the metal piece.
I will have to look into it; noticed a bit of warping on my scoop too...

Glad to help
I believe the OEM heat shield is P/N 51 48 2 183 986. Not sure exactly from where I noted it, but it was another post here on the forum.

I'm looking for the OEM part number that MINI attaches to it.
OH! Appreciate it greatly timfitz63!

Yea Erik, the one on mine I showed you is the one sold by WMW. $26.00 was worth the money to me not to drive to the dealer and back, let them think it over, twittle the thumbs for awhile, then "maybe" try to convince me of the reasons I don't need it. So I just bought mine, and as far as I know it's the same thing.
