Weird Sound-Help

Help! There is a weird sound that comes from my Cooper S happens from a stop upon acceleration. It sounds like a medium pitched whine, maybe 1-1.5 seconds in length then it goes away until I start the car from a stop again. No sound whenthe clutch is disengaged; no sound when revving and it's not the brakes in the front. What on earth is it? Do I need an exorcist?

the chewbacca noise...there are many threads about the sound. Has something to do with the flywheel.

This goes away after it warms up. I have the same thing. 116,000 miles and counting. Original clutch.

Yep, Chewbacca noise.....my '03 did it from new, at 65K it was still going fine.

You have a dual mass flywheel, the noise is coming from it - it doesn't hurt anything and someday when you put a new clutch (and flywheel) in it will go away, for a while.
