2005 sport electrical problem

After a three week vacation and the mini sitting without being started - had to jump start. Kept running about 30 minutes. Figured that should charge if battery was down. Once I turned it off, I could not restart. Weird that there was electrical but not turnover. Once I took key out, heard whirling sound behind speedometer and then a slight whirling sound behind on board computer display. The occured several times while I tried to get some response from the motor. I have no idea what it might be. I will have to have it taken into the dealer 90 miles away to get it sorted out. Is there something simple that is happening or is it beyond your collective experience at this point and is a new problem manifesting itself. Stumped! WAK1948

Have you verified that the battery is good? Those are symptoms of a bad battery.

You can take the battery to an autoparts store and have it load tested. But if you are still on your original battery I wouldn't even bother. Just go get a new battery.
