Hi everyone. We just bought our first MCS, a 2003, and the power steering cooling fan is not running. Does anyone know, is it thermostatically turned on and off, or should it run all the time the engine is running?
The pwer steering fan will only run when the high speed radiator fan is on. The high speed fan only comes on when the A/C is running and the car gets hot.
Does the fan spin freely in the housing?
Do you know if the powersteering fan recall was done on it?

As stated it should run when the A/C is on. Does it have a stone guard on it or are the blades simply out there? The upgraded fan has the guard. Of course the first thing to do is to check the fuse.
You should also check the low speed of your radiator fan. Many if not most of those are not working either. It too should run when the A/C is on but you have to look at it to check as you will not hear it.
The PS fan is easy to change. The radiator fan is a bigger deal.

Thank you all for your responses. The fan spins freely and has the stone guard on it. The problem I'm trying to resolve is sometimes the steering is harder than normal but the steering wheel can be turned with more effort than normal but not impossible to turn. My wife drives it most the time and she notices it. If the Steering pump was bad, I would think it would be very difficult to turn the wheel. The PS fluid is full also.
