I noticed that sometimes ONLY on a cold start, for about the first 10 seconds, the idle is rough and then after the 10 seconds it smooths out and is absolutely perfect. This only started happening after putting in some colder iridium spark plugs. Is this normal??

Secondly and more importantly, sometimes for no reason at all, my car will turn the DSC light on and no matter how many times you flip the DSC switch, it will not turn off. If I turn the car off, wait a couple seconds and turn it back on, the light will clear. It doesn't seem to affect performance at all. Is there a reason this is happening? Is my MCS trying to tell me something?

The cold start issue you have is common with first gen MINI. Try different gas - my car always loved Sunoco 91. Or, reset the whole engine memory (dealership can, but maybe it does if you pull the battery for 10 minutes)

DSC fault is indicating a problem sensor, obviously intermittent but likely to get worse / more frequent over time.

 

I read somewhere in the forums that 1Gen minis have this problem that can be fixed with a firmware upgrade or something like that.

I'll ask my local Mini dealer and post findings.
