Does anyone have any experience with engine treatments such as Slick 50, Dura Lube, Lucas oil, etc.? I was at Autozone today looking at them and there were many choices. I've always used Slick 50, but I have no idea if it does anything. I've never had engine problems, but then again, neither have any of my friends who stay away from these products. I remember in auto-shop in high-school, we tried to get the manufacturers of these products to send us studies as to what they do and why they are better than thier compeditors, but none of them responded and thus the instructor said "that should be an indicator as to the validity of thier claims". Are any of them better or worse for superchargers? Any guidance is appreciated.

HERE is a thread from a while back discussing Slick 50 and similar products. It's a good read.

I haven't seen anything on Lucas oil so can't advise you on thet product. With regards to the other stuff (Slick 50, Prolong, etc.) stay away from that stuff. At the best it doesn't do anything to help your motor. At the worst some with tfe additive can plug up your oil gallerys at the crank, cams, etc.
Just use a good grade synthetic oil (I like Redline) and you won't need any additives.

At one ime I was building and racing f2000s. I tried Slick 50and found that with its use I had to reduce the idle about 300rpm and that the oil pressure was higher (100psi vs 70psi) This increase in pressure also required readjusting the oil pump. Did it help the engine? Not sure. But it did increase idle and oil pressure. At that time I was using Moble 1, or Casteol. The same results with either oil. As a result I have used it in every car I own (Jags, Porsche, MINI s, Suburban gas and diesel to name a few). I no longer use it in a 928. In the last rebuild I used Gapless rings and they are not compatible with Slick 50, STP, etc. according to the manafacturing engineers. I don't remember why. It is a good product that I reccomend. No we were not sponsered by them. Your choise.

I used to work in a lab that did testing for Ethyl mainly on their gasoline additives but I was gone before all the testing was completed... not that I could disclose that information anyway

From what I understand outside of that, the synthetic oils have friction modifiers in them already and its hard to improve upon their formulaes. It's a pretty competive market and I believe they would if they could!

The only gasoline additives that I've seen suggested by someone who's opinion I respect are products called "Regane" and "XTRA Concentrated Fuel Injector Cleaner" both by Gumout.

Using Slik 50 is like drinking cooking oil to lubricate your arteries to prevent a heart attack!

The definitive word on the subject can be found here.

This is interesting to me b/c I've had low oil pressure at idle for 20k+ miles now and the dealer can't figure out why!
