New squeek today triggers limp home mode
My wife was driving today in rush hour traffic when the car went into limp home mode. I got there and the car smelled hot. Temp gauge was normal but when I started the car the alternator light faded in and out and there was a loud squeeking noise the rises and falls with RPM. Kind of sounds like waterpump bearings but why the alternator light? It threw a CEL but I dont have a reader. I drove it home after the alternator light cleared itself and it went into limp home mode once. When it did this the idle was rough, like it was down a cylinder but as soon as any gas was applied it would rev to maybe 1500RPM and run smoothly. Turning the car off and back on clears the condition but not the squeek. Temp was fine all the way home (about 4 miles of side streets) after cooling the water level checks out fine. Power output seems normal otherwise. The 2005 MCS has 67K miles on it. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I am reading the dry supercharger threads and am getting worried. After letting it cool down I drove it around and could not get it to repeat anything except the squeek. anyone got a reader for sale?
