hey all finally purchased a mini about 3 months ago... have been using this great site to find EVERYTHING. now i have run into my first mini problems :( .... so i started my car up like usual every day yesterday and a new noise i had heard.. while the RPM'S are above about 2xxx a very high pitched noise comes about..VERY high pitched almost like how a whistle pierces your ears but not quite as loud.... me and my buddy were looking and it seems to possibly be from the supercharger or the belt??? helpppp.... noise number 2... today im driving and it sounds like the supercharge has gotten VERY whiny... more then when i bought it but its only when the supercharger spools so i know its the supercharge i just dont know what it is... it almost sounds like a very loud and annoying power steering oump but its not becuase it doesnt happen when i turn the wheel... please help thank you guys i own a 2005 mcs 100% stock... for now thanks...

From what I heard, but I could be wrong, if the supercharger is going you would know. It makes a very terrible sound (gears grinding). You might possibly have a vacuum leak or some kind a leak going on. You might want to have your buddy rev the engine and pin point exactly where it is coming from.

Hey thanks for the reply
Does anyone know how to put video in a reply? Do I have to youtube it then put the link in... I took a video on my phone and you can clearly hear both noises.. Thx for the help
And btw.... If a vacum line is leaking wouldn't you feel loss of power? With both noises there I still feel full power ... And would a boost guage help me find out if I have a vaccum leak? Thanks

Yeah... upload your video to Youtube and link it.

Whistling doesn't sound like a faulty SC, which is more of a grinding sound when the gears no longer have oil between them.

Well the good news is it doesn't sound like the supercharger. Obviously I can't tell from the video where the noise is coming from but to me is seems like it might be coming from the belt line area... Maybe a bad crank pulley or damper or something. Try taking a better video so we can see and hear exactly where its coming from.

Sounds like a glazed belt and maybe the belt tensioner.

Have you had any luck determining what is causing the loud whine/whistle. I have a 03 MCS with 50K on it and just started hearing the same random noise. Sounds like it is coming from the area near the air cleaner box, just towards the firewall.

If you mean the intake, it is supposed to make a whine due to the supercharger. Also i cant believe this is your first post and you have been here since 2004.

Been lurking. No, it isn't the normal SC whine. It is a loud whistle. Just started last week.
