That would be awesome. If you can't find it, i'll just use a piece of electric tape so I won't have to see that stupid light ever again.

Can we use a 3.3 ohm 5 watt resistor or does it have to be 3.2?

3.3 is good. In fact that's what I have if you want it.

It's a 3.3 ohm 5 watt. It's what I used.

Pm me your address and I will mail it.

Battery Safety Terminal BST is another name for the squib. I have searched all over and was about to give up until I found this thread. I wanted to post the BST so it would be easier for people to find.

I have a 2006 S that I am doing this fix to as soon as I get a resistor from Amazon delivered.

I’m planning on doing this modification this week. It beats the cost and labor of a new cable which the dealership wanted $1200 to do the job. I just need to get a code reader that will reset the code. The current one i have does not reset SRS codes.

Thanks for the thread, trying to fix my daughter's MINI. Where can I find the resistor?

It worked!

I just completed this repair and it worked perfectly. I have several of these resistors if anyone needs one.

Hi guys, I am exhuming this thread because my Mini has such a problem (I already bought it this way). My current situation is as pictured, what can I do to solve the problem economically?

As you can see, I don't have a little piece..

What does that wire that is connected to the positive terminal go to? You will want to find the piece that plugs into the box (referenced in post #19) and close the circuit with the resistor. Plug it back in, then clear the SRS code.

Thank you for the answer, but "the piece plugs into box #19" , where I can find it? Somewhere I think I read that the bmw E39 repair kit for the BST might be good for our Minis, could I look for that? Or alternatively what should I do in your opinion?

Junkyard is probably your best bet. Not sure about the E39 repair kit.

I preformed the airbag light/squib with the resistor hack as described; 2wo years ago. Works wonderfully. Didn't even have to plug in my OBDII to clear/ extinguish the light. It immediately went out by itself. Light comes on at ignition turns off after seatbelt is engaged

remove the 2 wires that go into the yellow cap on the battery terminal. Those are the ones that fire the squib.

Place the resistor across the 2 wires.

Reset SRS computer.

Good as new.

Good luck
To clarify for myself, the battery squib is to be completely removed from the positive terminal off the battery cable end? Once the resistor is in place how does the system receive its power to activate? I guess I am unfamiliar as to what exactly this wire harness does and how it works...

It's been a couple of years since I performed this fix.
Forgive me if I seem unclear...

To answer your question
No - the BST (squb) should stay in place connected to the positive battery terminal as is. Yes you can undo the main positive cable if it makes it easier to access / perform the fix.

Just trace the small black lead that has a connector that plugs into the BST. Within that lead there are two small (or one? - I don't remember) wires sheathed within that lead.
Simply connect each end of your 3.5ohm resister to each ends of those wires as shown in post #19. to complete the circuit. Be sure to plug that wire back into the BST after your done if you removed it to solder the resistor.

Here is another link with pictures that might help if you haven't see it.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I did the squib modification and reset my light my creator c310+. Everything seemed OK but my battery died overnight. I also set my interior light so it would come on with the door, so hopefully that did it. Here's a closeup of my repair

I thought it would also work to use the end the positive battery cable and disconnect the squib line from a junked car. It looks like I could crimp it to the end of my battery cable. Maybe with something like this. https://www.zoro.com/grote-battery-splice-2-awg-tin-pk10-84-9553/i/G1295813/?recommended=true

Does anyone know what guage wire this would be?
