car is jerking slightly while hard acceleration until engine warms up.

Hello All,

I have a 2008 cooper s chilli red. Especially in the morning, or after a long stall, I feel my car acceleration is not uniform, it is as if there is intermittent power on and off( very quickly). This is gone once the car warms up. I can feel it more predominantly while hard acceleration(pedal to the floor) in third gear at lower RPM, at speeds of 25mph-45mph.

I took it to the dealer, but they could not reproduce it. I had a cold start issue which was fixed. No problems other than that so far.

Any suggestions on what might be wrong will be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Pavan

You should let the car warm up properly before any hard acceleration. So in doing that you should never feel the problem you are stating.

Try letting the engine warm up before flooring the accelerator?

I can be pretty grumpy when I first wake up too.

What was was your cold start issue exaclty ? Did the car stall or stumble when cold at first start up with the key. If so what was done to clear up this issue ? Thanks!

Its just good practice to let the engine warm up a bit before tromping the go-pedal.

Hello,

Thank you for asking. Well it did not stall but it made a loud noise until engine warmed up. They said they had replaced the timing chain assembly as per bulletin 11 02 07.

Same happened to mine after I had the timing chain fixed. They said it was low on oil and they topped it off. Has been fine since.

Hello all,
From the time I started this topic in July2010 here is an update on the situation. Now my Car has 47000 mils and is stumbling to accelerate on uphill and gives out a puff of smoke. It only happens one or two times in a day. It is hard to recreate it.
I took it the dealer and seems there is Carbon buildup on the intake valves. They have done Carbon Blasting. It was fine for a day or two but is doing it again now. I will be taking it back and see what they say. I think it requires a manual scraping.
