Strange occasional thud or clonk

My car has been in and out of the dealership and then an independent mechanic for over a month now and I really don't want there to be anything more wrong with it so I hope this is one of those MINI noises that just pop up and we have to live with - like the sunroof rattle or dashboard rattle.

Anyway, ever so often and it seems to be quite random I hear a thud coming from near where the pedals are (mostly from there but it seems to be moving, I heard a thud as far over as the passenger side. It sounds like something is loose and hitting the panel? Can there be something behind the pedals? Most of the time it's just one thud, but I have heard three in a row once. It's so weird and quite annoying.

At first I thought there's something wrong with my gas pedal as I heard the thud when I took my foot of the pedal, but then I also heard it when I was slowing down, i.e. down-shifted and let go of the clutch, then I heard it when I was driving at almost constant speed... Then I didn't hear it for two days, now it's back.

Anyone ever come across anything like that? Anything I should check or have checked?

Sounds like a bad motor mount.

Hmm... anything I can check myself before calling up the mechanic again?

+1 to motor mount. Will probably be the lower mount. Here's a RealOEM link: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...21&hg=22&fg=05. Jack up your MINI at the front left or right block to look underneath. A mirror extension helps.

Damn! I just paid $2000 for other repairs. Hoped all is fine now - car runs better than ever - and then I started hearing that clonk.
