Mini service-First Oil Change

So the Mini is a year old and I took it to the dealer to perform the first oil change. When I get home, I pop the hood and check the oil. It looks as yellow as when I took it in. When I wipe the dipstick off, the towel has a black mark on it, like it hasn't been wiped off for a while. Anyone ever had a doubt if a dealer changed the oil (or anyone for that matter)?? I don't think they touched it. They said I'd have to bring it in again soon when the mileage alerts went off.

I don't know what kind of mileage you had on the old oil, but it is usually dark brown to almost black when used more than 5000 miles. "Yellow" or clear-ish amber color would indicate newer oil.

I hope you made sure they did all of the "full service" items such as the microfilter replacement. My first "full service", they only changed the oil. Now 10000 miles later, my microfilter is bad and they will not replace it since their records (a check box on the computer) show the full service was performed. So now I have to buy one and replace it myself.

On a side note, I have the same Conti DWS tires on mine.

Don't know what they did. They take the car into the backroom and it disappears for an hour or so. They don't like lookie lou's in their inner sanctum.

I was told the cabin filter gets replaced at the second free service at about 30k miles.

OK.....Here's what you do next time.
When the car is finished have the Service Advisor go over each and every Service Item they performed. If they are not doing this already, you have a crappy Advisor!
Then....Have them explain the What and When of your Next Scheduled Service. Again, they should be doing this already!
Last.... Before you hop into your Pride and Joy and drive away, both you and the Advisor should do a walkaround of the car to make sure there are no scratches, scrapes, dings etc that weren't there before.

A "lookie Lou" is someone who goes into a store and just looks around, never buying something. Or, if you have a house for sale, a "lookie Lou" will go in to look around, just to see what the house looks like with no intention of buying. Just a saying I've used since the olden days.

Yeah, that's what I was also told at first. However, the manual (p82, I think) gives a rough description of the "full service" and the microfilter is part of it. The SA agreed when I showed him this. Also in the service manual, microfilter is listed at every box where you can record info for each service.

If they only change your oil but check the "full service" box in their system (Century MINI did this on my first full service), that is all you get until next time.

I had a similar problem. The print out after the oil change said TOP OFF, I didn't catch it till I got home that night. So I called the next day talked to the supervisor she said she would check and call me back in a few minutes.. She did and said that they just put top off in the computer but it was a full service change. O.K., who really knows. I had to take it back about 3 weeks later because the cat convertor had a recall to be replaced. So I took it in, and had it replaced, after words when I picked it up she told me they went ahead and picked up another oil change for me since I was close to my 36,000 milage point. So who really knows if the first oil change was really done and this was a do over. So I feel your pain. good luck

I would not only have the SA review what was done to your car but also if you cant understand you copy of the RO then ask!!!! I work for a car dealer currently, at one point I was the cashier and we would have customers who would ask for copies of our paperwork, would ask what every line was etc. Im more than happy to explain it to them.

Im not sure how other dealers are set up but the MINI dealer I go to for parts has a big window in thier waiting room so you can see what they are doing. We dont at mine but there is a door w/a window and you can see whats going on in there.
