Oh no, my first problem.

I just bought my 05 MINI with 6k on it about 4 months ago, and have in no time happily run it up to 12k.
Needless to say, I was a bit surprised to get my first engine warning light the other day. When I checked the code, it turned out to be the knock sensor. With 12k??!! Is that unusual? Its gone off and on a few times since, so its intermittent. Should I let it go for a while to see what happens, is it crying wolf, or do I take it seriously? Is this a common problem?
Thanks people.

Before you get worked up, make sure it is plugged in correctly. It is visible to the front center of the intercooler. Maybe it just came loose or was not messed around with.

But it is not easy to get to. Even the Supercharger has to be loosened some and canted forward as the bolt that holds the sensor in is very long.....

Intake manifold has to be removed. Make sure you have a new gasket handy..

Intermitent electrical problems? Welcome to Mini ownership!

I've not had this problem & don't know if there are any ill effects from letting it go, but when diagnosing electrical problems, always start with easy things first: Is the connector plugged in all the way? It's located on the front of the intake manifold. Clean it with contact cleaner, then reconnect it. Is any of the wiring chafed & possibly shorting out?

If you actually need to replace the sensor - Good Luck! It's located on the block behind the supercharger (which I just finished replacing on my car). Do-able, but definitely not an afternoon job.

Grayraven...FlyingG...thanks much. I'll check it out as much as my skills allow. If need be, I'll have it replaced.
