Hi I have an auto cooper s and have been trying to remove the lower engine mount bolt to change my pulley. When I went to remove it i noticed the bolt was put in on the opposite side of the mount to pictures I have seen (maybe because its an auto?). Anyway the bolt would not turn at all, i even cracked a socket trying, this was after covering it in WD40 over night...My question is would jacking the engine up slightly reduce some sort of pressure on the thread allowing it to turn? If this bolt is stuck can I just remove the whole mount to let the engine be raised more?

P.S I think this bolt was removed recently when BMW did some work so it shouldn't be rusted on, it doesnt look rusty anyway..

 

I would douse it in PB Blaster, let it sit, then jack up the engine to the point of it taking stress off the bolt, but not actually moving the engine.

 

Sounds like some dealer tech just ran it in too tight with an impact.

The reason the bolt comes through on the other side is cause you have an automatic, this is how it is suppose to be, on manual trans cars it comes from the other side.

If you can't get it just remove the 13mm bolts on the pan.
