LIMP MODE

Limp mode is when the motor determines there is a mechanical issue...and the engine determines it can run with reduced power....
If the Low gas light is lit...and you happen to get a limp mode, it is unlikely related...unless you are nearly out of gas....and that is what the light is telling you...very bad for the car...fuel pump, filter...you may be sucking up...and the fluctuations in fuel flow/pressure is giving the computer fits....it just a guess...but you should not really plan on running you car till that light is on (it is the "YOU ARE ALMOST OUT OF GAS IDIOT LIGHT")...the pump is gonna get hot...and you are sucking all sorts of crap stuck in the bottom of your fuel tank up....not good....
But to the best of my knowledge, it does not automatically go into limp mode....
