MAP Keeps gumming up

My the MAP sensor on the front of my motor (can't remember which this one is called) keeps gumming up every 400-500 miles. Looks like a greasy oil on it. When it does, the car starts yo-yo-ing until I throw a CEL. Typically the cel is that bank one is lean. The temporary fix has been to pull the MAP, rinse it with MAF cleaner and stick it back. I have a code scanner to reset lights.

What is likely the cause though? Buildup in the inter cooler? Do I need to pull the inter cooler and clean it out? Maybe an oil catch can? Car is stock 03 MCS other than a alta intake. I have 80k on it.

Any help is much appreciated. I just get tired of having to clean the sensor and think there is a bigger issue here.

Stop wasting your time cleaning the sensor. They will get filthy and this is the norm. You probably have another problem. Could be bad gas. With the symptoms you describe, unfortunately there are a lot of possibilities. Start with changing gas sources and run a tank of fuel cleaner through as well. Next step could be to check and see if your fuel pump is working correctly.

+1 to Father Deth. Your bypass valve may be going bad. Either replace it or do the VGS mod. Search the threads for these solutions.

I have no doubt I'm chasing a bigger issue. Ruled gas source out. How would the fuel pump have an effect? I'll see if I can find the codes. Pretty sure one was P0171 which was running lean bank 1. The other one I can't recall off hand. The MAP on the front of the engine (sorry for not knowing the correct term) gets and oily buildup. Once cleaned off, runs like a champ. The MAP by the air box has stayed clean.
