Funky sunroof issue

Hi all. Been lurking for a while; this is my first post. I searched but couldn't find what I was looking for so I figured I'd run this past you.

I recently bought an 03 MCS with 39K on it, and the sunroof is doing something strange. When I open it, it makes a couple little clicks (sounds like grinding plastic gears) while it opens. The exact point this happens is just after the rear portion raises up. When the clicks happen, the driver's side of the sunroof moves back a couple millimeters while the passenger's side stays put. In other words, it kind of rotates counter-clockwise if you were looking at it from above, but just slightly. It then works fine. This happens upon opening, and clicks again and the reverse happens, with clicks, upon closing.

First thing I did was follow instructions elsewhere on NAM to clean and lube the rails. It now clicks and shifts position a little more smoothly But I'm pretty sure it should be doing neither.

Any ideas on getting this issue worked out? I have a full extended warranty from the dealer that will cover it, but there is a $50 deductible and I don't want to be without the car. I'd rather figure this out.

Thanks very much to all in advance!!

No takers, huh? No prob...going to try aligning the sunroof. I'll post the results after I get around to it.

FYI...it's not unusual for me to be talking to myself.

Well...that was a bust. Time to make use of that extended warranty...

I have read a how to repair on the roof, and just getting to the source of the problem is about 2 book hrs of shop labor.

So if you have an extented warranty I would take full advantage of it. Have them check the two roof drains while they are in there too.
