"Factory / OEM" Scan Tool Equipment

I come from a VW background where a company called Ross-Tech (http://www.ross-tech.com) has made the OEM VW / Audi scanning interface public to individual owners, allowing to check fault codes past just a basic OBDII generic reader. It also gives users the ability to change soft-codings for different user preferences like DRLs useage, convienence setting and the like.

Does the BMW / Mini platform have the same type of thing? Being I'm a heavy DIY type of individual, looking to see what hardware or software (with matching interface) is available to simulate the OEM scanning equipment the dealership or Mini-certified mechanics would have... Anyone with that insight?

autoenginuity.com with the BMW extensions allows you to read and reset all the extended codes- but does NOT support all the coding that the dealer can do (to reset default settings for various things).

You can see the 2nd gen mini support here:
http://autoenginuity.com/vehicle_sam...SensorList.htm

click the "next" button in the upper left to page through all the screens of supported extended OBD data available.

Carsoft supposedly supports module coding also... but I haven't used it. I also don't know how it's OBD-type support compares with Autoenginuity (which is extensive).

Yes, get the Drewtech Mongoose J2534 tool. That combined with BMW's minitech.info site ($30 per day) you can do all of the code reading and coding the dealer can do (including new modules and retrofits). Please refer to the following thread:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...2534-tool.html

Just remember you will need a power supply to hold the voltage up as well.

That's the about expected price-point for the needed options I was looking for.

FES carries the Bav tech software

I have one of the enthusiast and one of the Pro kits in stock now.

Ross Tech was doing something called BiM-Com, but it was still born. Sad too as the beta SW as promising. But they are more than busy with VAG-COM, so it really was just a dilution in effort....

The Mongoose tool is around $300 on eBay and a power supply can be had from eBay for about $40.

I got bavarian technic, base version, and it works great for reading and clearing codes from all modules, best money spent. My mini has been sick lately and the scanner has paid for it self in 2 weeks lol.
