Noise when accelerating and decelerating

I have a noise coming from what seems under the drivers side foot area. My husband claims it is a growling noise. It only happens when I accelerate and decelerate in the higher gears. It started a couple of months ago very slight on off and on. I drive it the most and could hear it although no one else could until now it happens all the time. Any suggestions as to what it may be? I think it started after i pulled into a driveway that had a slight drop off and i bottomed out?

probably wide of the mark, but the first think that occurs to me...

"growling"... interesting - that suggests drive train to me, as does the on/off throttle provoking it, as does the "top two gears"

"growling" leads me to a rotating part that's moving fairly fast -- e.g. the rollers in the bearings, the gears in the box, but probably not the CV joints (but not sure on that one)

that leads me to the following two bits:
1. i would go try and diagnose it, as it's getting worse and worst case could it be expensive over time
2. i'd start with front wheel bearing and CV joint inspection, and a check of the transmission oil level as well
3. with the car on the lift I'd search for any evidence of "bottoming out" contact where it might matter

others might have better ideas though.

cheers,

charlie

I had something similar, but it was more of a knocking noise and generally under lower speeds of acceleration and deceleration. Ended up being a busted engine mount.

CV joints usually click on tight turns & slow speed when they go bad. Engine/transmission mounts is a good place to start the search for your noise.

Good luck in the quest, noises can be very frustrating to find.
