Removing (or restoring?) trunk lid "wings" badge

Hey everyone.

I've searched a bit but can't find much on this topic.
The clear coat on my rear "wings" badge is flecking off. Under it, the black of the "MINI" doesn't look too bad but certainly doesn't have that clear coat shine. I was considering purchasing a new badge ($33 from the dealer) but I wasn't sure how to remove the old one. I have heard that heating them up with hair dryers and using dental floss to slide under the adhesive can work for some badges, but, so far, that's just hearsay.
Does anyone have a tried and true method?
Also, any thoughts on where to pick up badges other than the dealer?
... or perhaps I get out a blade and delicately fleck off the rest of the clear coat and save myself some time and money?

Thoughts are appreciated.

The easiest way to get it off is to go at it with some fishing line and "saw" away the adhesive. There are centering posts in the middle of the back but just work around them and it will come up.

You can get the badges on eBay.co.uk for pretty cheap. I think I paid $15 for a set of front and rear last time.
