Body Color washing off under hood
Body Color washing off under hood
Hi all,
I recently purchased a Liquid Yellow 2005 MCS Cabriolet that showed some grey primer on the strut towers and under the hood itself. I washed it today for the first time and found that the yellow paint can be wiped away during an under hood cleaning, leaving grey primer below. Odd behavior, I think. The paint on the body is normal and looks good for a 5 year old car. Carfax was clean showing no bodywork at all during the life of the car.
So, did I run into a typical MINI problem I've never read about? Or did I buy a car that flew below the Carfax radar and has really been rebuilt?
Thanks,
-Peter

Is the yellow paint wiping away just on the strut towers or in other under hood areas as well? If it is just the strut towers it may have had mushrooming damage that was repaired and then repainted.
It's the strut towers and under the hood itself, not just the towers themsleves. The bumper covers and top of the hood show normal wear (e.g. small rock chips, occasional scratches, etc). All doors, hood and body panels line up nicely and the car drives well.
