My roof won't retract past sunroof stage!

I took my car into the shop for what I believed to be a problem with the starter. The mechanic first checked wiring and fuses, then determined that it was the starter. When I got my car back (a 2006 Mini Convertible), the rear defroster doesn't work, the doors don't lock once the car is moving, and the rear windows don't go down. Most importantly, the top will NOT go down past sunroof stage! :( The lights on the buttons for the windows and the roof no longer blink either. I've check all of the fuses for these things and replaced whether they looked like they were blown or not. Help!!! Summer's coming!

I'd be taking the car back to the shop immediately and telling them to fix the problem they created.

Thanks, but if they mucked it up, I'd just as soon they not cause any more problems. It's going to a dealer. I did find information on the mini2.com forum (someone here referred me and thanks a bunch!) and it suggested that when the battery was disconnected I lost some of my programming. Hopefully that's all it is!

Ah, that makes sense. I had assumed it was a dealer. Good luck.

Don't fault the entire dealership for one goofy technician. I would take it back and get them to do it for no other reason than it will get logged into the service computer.

I think the first shop was not a dealer. Also, I have never heard of a car losing its programming due to the battery being disconnected.

daflake, I think you're right. I missed that. Only three people work on my MINI: the dealer, competent mechanic friends (always good to have them; I hate working on front-wheel drive cars), and myself.
