Airbag sensor recall on 1st gen Mini?

My airbag light is on ..

Doing a bit of searching and I keep finding reference to an airbag sensor recall on early MINIs.

Does anyone know what models/years this covers, and more information on the recall? My dealer didn't volunteer any info naturally

Thanks!

Go to alldata.com. Most shops subscribe....it should be there. A friendly local machanic or possibly someone online might hook you up. Sounds like you have all you need though...I think the dealer would fix it for you...if you are covered by the campain/ recall dates. Outside of it...a crapshoot. Some might if you have a good relationship...but I am not sure if they must under the warrenty.

You can probably look it up here: http://www.minitechinfo.com/. You'll have to purchase a one day access ($30). If there are any other installation/repair instructions you have been interested in, it would be an opportunity to look them up at the same time.

However, you shouldn't have to go through this and it's unfortunate that your dealer is being uncooperative. It is so easy for a dealer to pull it up on their computer and show you. There are some NAM members who work at a MINI or BMW dealer and may be able to access the information. Try sending a message to Partsman.

I have an 05 mini and we had the passenger sensor replaced (actually the whole seat) because the sensor was sticking up. This was in Feb of 09. Now, our light is on because the sensor is not working. Is it possible to find out if the replacement sensor/seat was from the defective/recalled batch of sensors by looking at the current seat? Thanks, ric

ric: It would be worth checking with the dealer whether the replacement sensor is still under warranty. Replacement parts have their own warranty (separate from the car warranty) that begins at the time of installation. Unfortunately I think it is 2 years but still worth checking.

Alas, it's been 2 years and 6 months. $1,300 to replace.
