MCS over heated and smoking! Help!

I just bought a mini Cooper s yesterday w/ 124k and on the drive home it over heated and started smoking. The dealer took it to a shop and payed for the repairs and they said it was the low swords fan assembly. Which after some research seems to be a common issue. But my question is that is might there be a blown hose or something? Where was the smoke coming from? Also there was some coolant on the power steering pump and it looked like it had gotten sprayed on
Edit: Low Speed Fan Assembly*

Chances are what happened is your coolant got so hot that the pressure in the expansion tank got to a point where coolant started to spew out and drip on your exhaust headers. The heat from your headers would then cause the coolant to start steaming and appear as smoke. Happened to me a couple times over the years that I've owned my MINI, so I wouldn't fret too much about it. Just make sure your coolant is topped off and check for any leaks, but shouldn't be a huge concern.
