My interior lights would not turn on so it seems like the computer control module in the speedo is messed up. Would an 05 speedo be a direct fit for the 03 speedo?

 

Either way you will need the dealer to enable the new speedo to your car before it will work, so maybe you can start there by speaking with an SA or their parts dept ?

 

You can't put a used speedo in. The speedo's in MINI's are coded for the car they came in, and can't be reprogramed to work in another MINI. This is so people can' turn back the mileage on the car. If you install it, it may work but you will have a dot come on it the mileage to indicate it has been tampered with.

 

Well that makes no sense. It was my understanding they are fully reprogramable as the ECU stores the hard data and the Speedo only needs to be enabled by the dealer to accept the info.....

So what your saying is that if a crash part repalces the old one the speedo doesnt work or reads "tampered with" in the Odometer.... ?
