Rust Spots on Driver's Side Mirror?

Now this is a curiosity! Wondered if anyone has seen it ... Rusty dots have appeared on my mirror surface, looks like the mirror has a slight case of acne but it's rust (not surface grime or gunk). Makes no sense? How to repair/replace? FYI I have the heated mirrors (part of cold weather option pkg).

thx,
Tatt

rust on glass? Glass does not rust. Is it possible you were exposed to some sort of metal dust in the air ... someone grinding near where you parked?

1. I'd be watching for similar spots to appear on the paint and glass... you're in chi'town. running the heat to the mirrors? Possible this is some deice chemical that's cooked on?

2. If you clay - try the clay on the glass of the mirror ... or if U have a window scraper/single edge razor blade try scraping the spots .... or rubbing compound even tooth paste. It's something on the glass I'll bet . . .

3. OR you could actually have the finish deteriorating from the back of the mirror .... it can be replaced ... google 'auto mirror glass only' and you'll find sources . . .

I have noticed when I wash my car, the two screws that hold the mirror base hold water and create rust in the hex heads. These screws can be found by folding the mirrors in. I bet your screws are rusted and maybe water is blowing from these screws at speed and leaving rust spots on your mirror.
