Window winter problem?

I have searched the forums and only found 1 thread concerning this...

I live in upstate new york and work night shifts. When i gotta outa work a lil while ago it was 13 degrees and was snowing harshly.

When i went to open the door, i noticed the window didnt slide down as much as normally but thought nothing of it.

After when i went to shut it, it wouldnt close, turns out my window was "too high" and wasn't clearing my roofrack. So in freezing weather i took off my whole roofrack, with 2 snowboards, stuck the snowy wet crap in my car...

THEN, went to shut it again, it wasnt shutting, it wasnt slid down enough still, so i kind of pushed my door in sofly it finally closed, after it closed the first time i said oh, okay lets try again, so opened it closed it ect..

The bottom of the window was frozen and thats what was keeping it from going down.

I'm just wondering if any of you experienced these problems before or know of any kind of solution. I heard putting some kind of anti-freezing ointment around the seals works.

My last car was a 2002 BMW 330 ci zhp and i never had this problem, im just curious...

I just had this happen to me after freezing rain last week.... it appeared to be ice blocking the way for the glass but even after I cleared it all away it didn't close. I ended up having to lower the window a crack and THEN close the door and subsequently raise the glass while in the MINI. This doesn't help when you're OUTside the car and want to close the door with the glass UP. I was able to park with the sun on the driver's side door and this warmed up the door/glass enough for it to operate normally. Weird.
I also have an issue where, when it's really cold, the windshield washer will NOT spray - and I'm using real washer fluid. Only after the temp goes up to at or above freezing does it operate normally.
