Hard to say for sure, but looks like it could be anti-freeze. If you taste it and it tastes sweet, that's what it is.....

why would it be leaking? The leak is on the middle of the floor.

check your overflow tank and look at the bottom of the hose, see if it is wet.

My antifreeze is blue, not sure what that is; has the coolant system been flushed before by someone other than the dealer? What year is the MINI?

I would also check the brake/clutch fluid and look at the bottoms of the calipers to see if they are wet as well; if your MINI is an 02 or 03 and brake/clutch fluid is like coffee, the caliper seals could have worn due to rust in the line/calipers.

Just a guess.

Was the oil changed recently? I know it looks a bit watery, but it does have the color of clean oil; maybe a leak around the drain plug or cannister o-ring?

Mine too. Look at your coolant overflow reservoir. If the fluid there isn't the same color as the leak, it isn't antifreeze/coolant. Another common coolant leak for MINI is at the thermostat.

Where exactly? Under the engine compartment? Left or right side?

I've developed the thermostat leak and it was a blue fluid...both times. The 05 MINIs used the blue fluid, my wife had an 05 cabrio and the antifreeze in it was blue too.

As suggested here, check:

overflow tank
thermostat housing
calipers/hoses/clutch slave cylinder
oil drain plug
oil cannister

I would think one of these items would be wet with fluid.

Please let us know what you find.

The main problem is that I just bought the car and it has never had any maintenance done except oil change. I am working on all that now. Have changed the Oil 3 weeks ago, new belt, ordered new filters, new wishbone bushes.

Leaking antifreeze is not normal, I would trace the leak down and fix it as soon as you can.

I would go to a nearby parts store and invest in an inspection mirror and flashlight and look for that leak.

Clean it up quick.

Not only should you not taste it, if you have any pets you need to clean it up ASAP.

It's poison to pets in the smallest doses.

Is your MINI an S or not? Does/did it feel like oil or water when rubbed with fingers?

Lawmann is right. Read this link http://www.popularmechanics.com/how_...e/1272436.html

BMW MINI uses BLUE for a reason and not running BLUE, yes it costs more then many others, but what you or the last person thought they were saving could cost you big time.

I'd get it to a indy BMW Shop ASAP and have the WHOLE system inspected and change whatever needs to be changed and then get the BLUE stuff in there and make sure they get all the air out of the system too.

PS, don't let that MINI overheat. If you see the temp gauge climb up to 75% pull off the road where you are, turn the car off, open the hood and call a flatbed. Over heating it will cost you much more then a tow.

based on the pics and above text I'd bet you are not running blue. The only other stuff that could leak from that part of the car is oily.
