Has your Mini been starting fine since your last post?

I have the same problem in my new Clubman S with only 750 miles on it and want to send them links to this thread and others I've seen so that I don't get the runaround.

So disappointing after a Subaru that had 138,000 miles on it and not a single problem other than regular wear and tear, ever. Ah, well.

Do you have any more updates? Does the car start normally now?

This problem for me has just begun, and the car is at about 8,000 miles. I tried starting my car on Monday morning and this morning (didn't drive anywhere yesterday), and these are the exact symptoms I'm going through. It shuts down after I push the start button--and the temperature in the car is at about 47 degrees. I have an appointment scheduled on Saturday to have my car checked, and I wanted to make sure I could be clear about what might be the problem. Was replacing the high pressure fuel pump under warranty? Was all the work provided under Mini's 3 yr./36,000 mile warranty?

I appreciate your help!!

CF Mini R&R my fuel pump and wiring harness assy and it corrected the problem. Now with that being said, I have developed the same problem again and scheduled to take it into Mini next week. According to my Service writer, they are fighting several problems w/ the fuel system. As far as the fuel pump, they now have a modified High Performance Pump now that is suppose to fix that part of the problem.
UPDATE: I stated above, I had to take the Mini back to the dealer, again they ran diagnostics and it showed the fuel was the problem, but they also parked the car outside on one of our coldest nights below 30 degree.... It didn't start so they replaced the pump and wiring harness again. Upon inspection of the removed fuel pump, they discovered they had put a non-modified pump in the first time. I'm now running with a new mod fuel pump, so far so good, I've been running the pump from Dec-March with no problems.

Yes, everything was replaced under the Min's 3yr/36,000 mile warranty...Both times....LOL! Dealer did not delay the repair or ask me any question; like what type gas I was using etc. I do use Med Grade from Shell or Exxon. I hope this and my write-up with I just updated helps. Good Luck!

engine issue...

Edit: car went in for 6th time now - cleaned out fuel injectors, bad gas cause of problem (bs i.m.o.)

My car has been in 5 times in 6 weeks for this problem...I had the manifold replaced last year. This year in this order-in their terms-

1. most bus fault present-data interruption
-cleared faults
2. high pressure fuel pump failure
-replaced fuel pump
3. carbon build up on intake manifold
-remove manifold to clean-preformed fuel cleaning process
-discovered faulty tpm - replaced
(manifold was replaced last year)
4. Chain tensioner loose/noisy - too much slack causing incorrect fuel/air mix
-replaced timing chain tensioner
5. spoke with MINI AMM and was told to use lower octane (91) 91 not available so 89 was used
-tested and could not duplicate issue at this time-fixed

So I do not believe any replacing of the manifold, throttle body, tensioner, fuel pump, or bad gas is causing these problems. Sadly I have to wait until it gets cold again to prove it.

Other problems I have had: faulty occupancy sensor
computer needing reprogrammed
3 broken valve stems caused by using MINI OEM
valve stem caps getting stuck on-replaced
with new caps-same problem-replaced
with plastic caps - same problem - advised
not to use MINI valve stem caps
Illuminated door sill failure- replaced
Manifold needed cleaning out - then replaced
Throttle body disassembled and cleaned

2007 MCS

Update:
I took my car in and they could not find anything wrong w/ the start up. I told them it only happens with cold weather (but "cold weather" for San Diego is 45 degrees). So, nothing was replaced or fixed. The dealership is very much aware of the fuel pump problem with Minis, and was willing to keep the car overnight to test it out on a true cold start. Unfortunately, they ran out of loaner cars so it wasn't quite convenient for me and I declined and went home. And Murphy's law, the following morning the car told a few tries to turn on. Should I still try to get this thing checked?

Just for the record, the 3-year item is free maintenance. Your warranty is for 4 years / 50,000 miles.

Just started having trouble starting

I've been noticing a rough idle for a couple months and now I've had three days when the car has died several times at cold start. Time for another trip to the dealer. My warranty ends in 3 months so I better not delay. Thanks to all who posted above for the info.
