Reversed control on window regulator fix??? Weird.
Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
I think I’ve found the problem. It could be one or the other, or both of these problems. It could be that if you didn’t disconnect the negative side on the battery before connecting the motor, it could probably reverse the polarity somehow in the system. Or the motor was wired wrong.
I just installed my new regulator and motor assembly in my 03 R53. Passenger side. It operates backwards as all have described here. Some have mentioned fixing it by turning the motor 180 degrees. Do any of you have pictures?? I don’t see right off what you are suggesting to move to fix the polarity.
It is the case on the motor that needs to be rotated 180 degrees. Alternatively you can reverse the motor leads to change the rotation direction too. Replacement motors have a 50/50 chance of having the case assembled 180 degrees out and running the opposite direction to what is needed.
To clarify, all you need to do is remove the casing that houses the motor. Shown below Remove the four screws holding this metal housing, pull it off, and rotate it 180 degrees and reassemble. This is easier than rewiring. It reverses the polarity of the motor.

Yes, this fixed my problem. Sorry it took so long to respond bit this is what fixed my backward window switch! Thank you to all who have posted and helped. 👍
So last week my driver's side window regulator went out and I swapped it out today for a new one, bolted everything back up and gave it a whirl. For some reason now, the window goes down when I hit UP and up when I hit DOWN!!!! What gives?
TO FIX THE "UP IS DOWN, AND THE DOWN IS UP" PROBLEM.... You have to reverse the Electric motor on the window regulator motor 180° degrees to get it to travel in the proper direction. PLEASE NOTE, YOU DONT HAVE TO PULL IT ALL THE WAY OUT!! (If you do, you might lose the springs) Pull it out just far enough to go past the plastic gaurd, and spin the motor. (4 screws are holding it, so you have to remove these). Push it back in and reattach the screws.
