After less than 90 days my S Convertible overheated on a day of over 100 degrees, thought it odd, added coolant and moved on. A few days later, only 80 degrees, it overheated again. This time I took it to the dealer and come to find out the impeller on the water pump failed.
I guess the question is, what other's experience out there is, possible damage to the engine and other parts might be??
Any experience with Mini customer service, or ??

 

Never heard of the impeller going bad, just pumps making noise. Hard to tell if there's any damage, might have shortened your engine life a little or maybe not at all. Just see how it drives after it's repaired, probably good to go.

 

I took my '07 MINI S for it's 15,000 mile oil change on Saturday, and Roadshow MINI in Cordova, TN tells me my waterpump is leaking and that I should replace it immediately (at a cost of over $1300!). The trouble is, I haven't seen any evidence of coolant leaking under the car, nor has the temp been out of operating range. Since the car is no longer under warranty I am going to try to find a mechanic that can work on my MINI here in Hooterville. I am skeptical there is even a problem.

I would be extremely grateful if someone would be kind enough to point me in the direction of an upgrade in the way of a water pump should I indeed be faced with a repair. If not an upgrade, a less expensive OEM dealer would be good as well.

The water pump (11517550484) should cost less than $200. So, there must be a lot of labor involved. I think that checking with a local mechanic (who knows MINIs) would be a good idea.

 

Thanks for the part #. Finding a local mechanic that knows MINIs is a near-impossible task. Now, if it was a Ford F-150, I'd be set! I am in rural Mississippi afterall!

 

Over $1000 for labor is ridiculous.

my bet is that bradfinger has an w11 or w12, alot more labor intensive than an n14 cooper s h20 pump.

 

How are you out of warranty in 2 years and 15,000 miles????

 

It looks like his car is an R52 from the pic? Does he have an '07 R56 or an '07 R52?

If it's an R52 the P/N would be 1151752012.

 

I have less than 3K miles on my "S", took it into the shop because of a harmonic type noise I was getting from the engine bay! (I have had the car less than 90 days...) Seems the water pump failed. As well as the iPod interface (3 times)....

Mini service has fixed everything to satisfaction, but.......build quality is questionable.

A water pump is a Epic Fail in my book, end result can be catastrophic engine failure....rebuild at the minimum!

My water pump was recently replaced also...Bought the car the day after Christmas in 2008 so it hasnt quite been a year, and 10K on the clock. It would ONLY leak when my car was on an incline, or I had the front on a jack stand to do some work.

 

Took my 09 MCSa in for an oil change at 14k, and dealer proactively found a water pump leak and replaced it...I hadn't noticed any drips or heard any peculiar noises, but kudos to them (Mini North Scottsdale) for catching and fixing with no fuss.

 

i had a bad water pump replaced as well after my heater took 30mins to blow hot air. '09 22k miles.

 

just had mine replaced at 30000 engine light was going on and offf for 4 days mini was closed because of new years until mon when i brought it in. Could there have been alot of damage done?
