Whistle in '03 Cooper (base) when cold
I was wondering if anyone with a base model Cooper from '03 has ever had a whistling sound when starting the car in temperatures below 45 degrees or so.
Basically, when I start the car (and it's been sitting overnight), I get this strange whistle even idling in neutral. The whistle's pitch is tied to the RPM. The whistle is lower at low RPMs and gets higher at higher RPMs until you reach about 2500RPMs, where it cuts out and becomes silent.
After the car warms up, the whistle is gone. Between the whistle, the belt squealing, and the power steering hum, I have one noisy BEAST of a little car.
Anyone else have the same behavior?
I'd like to add that other than that whistle and a loose belt, my Mini has performed FLAWLESSLY! No rattles, very little yo-yo feeling, and starts right up.
