P0326 - Knock Sensor

I just purchased a 2005 S Conv. It has 37K miles on it. The SES light came on and I pulled the code: P0326 Knock Sensor Performance...

I've read a few posts about this. The light has come on and off three times. The first time I was cruise at 70, the other two times I was idling at a light. I did not hear any type of knock or ping when the code was thrown. It seems to accel smoothly.

Is this just typically a sensor replacement?

I understand it's a 4 hour job. What all is involved and I've read conflicting instructions on to weather the supercharger needs to be removed or not to get to the thing.

Any information appreciated!

The good news is that replacing the knock sensor completely fixed the issue. The bad news is that it was a few hours of labor to have it done. The part is cheap, but I think I was charged around 5 hours of labor.

We have a Mini and BMW specialist in town (not the dealer) who charges less than half the cost of the dealer. I think the total cost was around $400. To do the job correctly, the supercharger has to be removed as the sensor is behind it. If you don't have an "S" it may not cost as much? If you have an "S", get the supercharger serviced while it is out. The oil in it needs to be changed periodically. It should not cost much since it will be out already. ...and heck... maybe put a smaller pulley on while it is out!

Good idea on the supercharger service. The crazy thing is that I have an 05 convertible like you...but I have 12k miles on it, so I probably don't even need a supercharger servicing yet. It happens intermittently, (It went on and then off again today) so maybe I can let it go for now to see what happens.
