Chirp when leaving from a dead stop
Chirp when leaving from a dead stop
2006 auto MCS. Just last night when I had my window down I noticed that when leaving from a dead stop, I can hear a quick chirp that never again occurs once the car is moving, no matter what the speed. It exclusively occurs when leaving from a stop. Is this a common occurence? Any thoughts?

Never heard that an auto can have this same problem as manual.
Yes, 6-speed automatic. When I have it in manual mode, the tranny seems to downshift to 2nd. I'm going to assume this is normal operating conditions (leaves the line in 2nd in D or Sport mode too, unless I floor it).
It doesn't seem to be the tranny. Regardless if I am in 1st or 2nd gear leaving from a stop, it happens. I think it is suspension related. I'm pretty sure it's not the tires chirping, it's not that kind of chirp.

Thread revival. I think it's a motor mount, pitch stop, or possibly tranny mount. The chirp seems to be triggered by the engine shifting weight. Chirp seems to be coming from the front-end of the car or somewhere inside the engine bay. Coming to a stop, the engine naturally leans forward. Upon leaving from the stop, I hear the chirp. Today I have also heard it upon putting the transmission in Reverse from a dead stop. As soon as the gear engaged it chirped but it was a much more brief sound. *sigh*, I guess I gotta go huntin' for messed up bushings, inspect the mounts, etc. I'll try to rock the engine and see if I can replicate it and come back with results.
It is definitely NOT the tires, that much I know and I very much doubt it's a belt.
Just throwin' this out there to see if anyone else encountered this.

Could also be an exhaust heat shield, you'll need to look everything over carefully.
Does it sound like a piece of sheet metal rubbing something, or does it sound "heavier" that than?
I think you're on the right track on the motor mount, but it's usually just the right side that fails, if you don't see and telltale streaks from the fluid, it's probably OK.
Let us know what you find, OK?

Found the culprit. Loose axle nut, per what was suggested in this thread.
Torqued both (slightly overtorqued in fact), thread locker, hoping for the best. Phew! Dodged a bullet, I thought I would have to replace the half shaft, which is NOT cheap.
