My power steering is not working and I took a look at it while it was jacked up for the brakes. The fan is not moving. So should I:

a) replace the fan and hope that it works. I do get power steering when I first start up the car. Then when it seems to get hot it goes off.

b) replace the pump because it shuts the fan when its not working and thats why its off.

c) replace the pump and fan because one burnt out the other.

 

Note: I am only asking about diagnosis not repair in this thread.

 

Well I think replacing the fan would be the first thing I'd do. It is the cheapest of those two parts. Replace & cross fingers.
