Driver-Side Window (Mangled Cabling)

2004 MINI Cooper (non-S)

My driver side window stopped working a few weeks ago. I have taken the entire door apart (got the rails out, motor, regulator, glass, etc.). The motor works just fine; however, when I took the regulator apart, I found that the steel cable that wraps around the hub had somehow slipped off the hub and gotten into the gear housing --the gear ground up about six inches of cable.

Any ideas on how I should handle this? The cables seem permanently attached to the parts that seat the window; therefore, it seems that this may involve more than just replacing the regulator and cabling.

Thanks in advance.

Your not alone - my passenger window quit last week and my driver side did this morning. I slammed the door and the driver side window started working again so I suspect a dead spot or dirty brushes on the motor.

I'm curious as well? Anyone?
