Chirp in suspension?

Our 2009 MC is 2 1/2 months old, 2300 miles. We love it, except for the way it sounds as we drive down most streets in town.

For the last 2 weeks we have a squeak from underneath (more on the passenger side) that sounds like a bird chirping. We hear it on any bump (gentle ones really do it) from 5 to 25 miles per hour. As the weather has warmed it has gotten louder, so it may be temperature dependent rather than mileage.

Brakes on or off don't affect it, and there is no noise on very smooth road. It is not related to engine speed or shifting.

Any ideas? We are 140 miles from our dealer, and this is annoying rather than a driving problem so I really don't want to take it in. This is the only flaw so far in our MC.

I don't know about the 09s, but the 07s had a few where the factory installed the wrong bushings on the sway bar. That caused more of a rattle.

Don't worry about it only being an annoying problem. The dealer will take car of it if you want to take the time to take it in.

Are you certain the sound is outside the car? Can you hear it reflecting off walls or parked cars? There's lots of places inside the car that can squeak over bumps.

Yes, it is outside. I can hear it reflecting off walls and parked cars. We drive through a viaduct every day and can really hear it then. It was just warm enough during last week that we drove with the windows open for the first time, and it was really clear then.

Wow... I have this EXACT problem too. I found that it was my drivers seat. I moved around and jumped in it and it chirped, but when I went out to push down on the car *from the body* it never happened. Yours might also be interior and thought it was exterior because your windows were open.

No, I don't think it is inside and related to the drivers seat. I had tried to make occur that way previously, but couldn't. Our noise is certainly temperature related as well. Yesterday was quite cold here, and there was no noise. I am sure it will return as it gets very warm by the end of the week.

its totally gone now (touchwood), tho i remembered what i kept doing a couple of times was i shower the engine belt, suspension, bushing, etc anything that is rubberywith soap-water. not sure if those helps but suddenly one day its just gone, no chirp (soap water here is 75% water 25% whatever your car shampoo)

I just had my transmission mounts replaced because it was cracking and making an annoying rattling sound underneath the car (my 07 mcs rattling started around 8000 miles). Funny thing, the annoying rattling noise is now completely gone. I now hear the light chirping sound on the passenger side. I normally hear it when I first start the car and it seems to go away after driving it for awhile..."I think". Once I'm on the road, I tend to forget about the sound. At first I thought there was a bird nest somewhere near my car .

Made the long trip to the dealer today and it is fixed! blackjackmark (see post above for link) was right, I had the same problem. The right front strut was defective and was replaced. No sounds now. So if you have a chirp or squeaking sound from the front suspension, a strut is probably the problem, not a bushing.

Glad to have helped! I would say that maybe they got a bad batch of struts, but yours was built a long time after mine!
