Well after a threatening letter requesting that my 03 MCS be replaced under the Ohio Lemon Law, I got the newest software that has not been released to the dealers and it actually FIXED the stumble. The low RPM 1st gear stumble is gone. No more waiting to pull out in traffic until there are NO cars coming. While I would have really enjoyed getting a new MINI, mine is just fine...FINALLLLLY! This is the newest update, not the issue 35 that recently hit the dealers. It does not have a release name/number yet, but has been tested in Arizona for the last 30 days or so. I just happened to bug them at the right time when the software was close enough to being released that they had it loaded to my DME/ECU.

For all those out there that suffer, get in line, the software should be released soon and your dealer can upload it without shipping your DME off to MINI.

Now I can install that ALTA exhaust that's been sitting in the shop for the last week!

A lot of people are going to be happy to read this thread and get the latest software update. Thankfully, I have not had this issue, but it has plagued so many here that a fix is long overdue.

OutMotoring, I look forward to your reporting again in about a month as to whether the "fix" stayed fixed. Not trying to be a wet blanket here...and lord knows we've waited for this long enough...but seriously, many previous fixes only managed to revert to un-fixed after several weeks of driving. So, let us know how this one (continues to) works!

It took 3 full days in the shop as they had to FEDex the ECU to New Jesey to have it reprogrammed....

Please report back in 3-4 days! I'd like to know if your MINI will remember it's old "Bad" habits!

My dealership did some testing of the downloading issue over the summer. The service manager is very active in wanting to stop the stumble. So he actually got the ok to download BMW 3 series software on their MCS. He told me it drove like a champ for 4 days and then it remembered it was a MINI and started up it's old ways!

So does this upgrade version have a name, version # or something so we can be sure what we are getting from the dealer? I expect it will take a couple of months for this to really get out there if the past is any indication of the way it will go. Can't wait till it is available and we get this issue over with for good. Thanks for letting us know of you success

BTW,most dealers don't know about this particular update, so they may be a bit confused if you ask them to load it up....
I went around my dealer on this issue and went straight to MINI and got a good response considering my request to Lemon Law.

Did they give you a timeframe other than "soon", by chance?

Please keep us updated--I'm trying really hard not to wet my pants before I KNOW it's justified.

I received a call from a gentelman at BMW/MINI I believe he said new jersey. Tues of this week. He claimed he could fix my MINI. My current options Send Flo's computer to newjersey to get flashed. Or wait a few weeks for the new software CD's to make it to the Dealer, 200 miles away in my case. He believes this will solve My S problems He also believes I should have this software applied to my 02 Cooper. I have high hopes. Fortunatly for me I will not have an opportunity to go to KC for a few weeks. So a few of you lucky folks closer to a dealer can guinea pig for me. I am not sure why I got called. I have not threatened lemons or other issues. I tried to maintain my focus on this problem from a safety standpoint. All hope is not lost BMW/MINI is burning cd's as we type. Good luck to all and keep the info flowing. Sorry I did not get a CD # I assume it is 36 if anyone has further questions or info let me know. I have the mans name and # so hopefully things will change very soon.

RAT

Huh, while the stumble is annoying and surely effects my mini having good jumps off the start i was never worried about pulling in front of traffic. You start accelerating, the car pauses for a have sec and then continues, to me it's not a safety issue it is just annoying. Think how much better a 0-60 time you could get without the stumble! I hope this pans out, but i of course am a pessimist at this point and will wait patiently to see what happens. I live in NJ and I am going to the dealership this coming Monday, so we'll see. Thanks for the info OutMotoring.

Om--We're all thinking that...but I could never have put it so eloquently!

I'm stopping by the dealer tonight, and will ask what the latest is. I'll let you all know if I find out anything different than what we're hearing here.

Well i brought my 02 MCS in for a cold start issue and they have to send the DME out for repairs (I will not have the car back till monday). They asked me what Mods where done to my car. HMMMMMM???? May I be a test mule? Well after a call to Mini USA and some talking (Complaining) to the dealer I am now sporting this for the weekend.

Look for me at Okcooperfest in NJ on Sunday
