Low speed downshift clunk

My car started doing a clunking when downshifting to second at low speed. From general information I’ve looked at it could be anything from “u joint” to the throttle cable.

Anyone who had this issue please chime in. Trying to figure it out.

One other symptom is that when this happens on decel, it will make a smaller similar sound once I accelerate from a stop making me think it’s something which has too much play and then gets put back into its correct position after accelerating.

Car has 92k miles. 2016 MCS.

Also, I sort of hit a curb recently so it could be related to that. Perhaps wheel bearings?

I would check your control arm bushings, could have torn one which would allow some metal to metal contact when you 'bump' the suspension with the downshift and acceleration. Hitting a curb could effect quite a few things. I would also check your engine mounts, as another thought.

great advice. i was thinking it could be an engine mount as well. havent had a chance to take the wheels off to look at everything but will soon when i do my rear brakes.

control arm bushings, end links, all that stuff could potentially have failed to some extent.

easy to check engine mount. visual inspect top left side on engine, sorta behind the head light.
