Paint/stripes

aight so iv owned my car for under 9 months and i i bought it used...... the previous owner had stripes put on at the dealership and while he owned it he had the stripes removed....... now when i bought it there was no sign of any stripes but about 5 months later the place were the stripes were there is oxidization of the clear-coat happening...... MINI now offers lots of diffrent vinyls and wraps....... am i wrong to think that this is a load of horse hockey that my car has this happening....... its Astro black and the oxidization is only happening where the stripes were........ some one have any similar advice or have it happen to them

That's strange that the paint would be oxidizing where it was protected by the stripes - usually, it's the other way around - the paint that was covered by the vinyl ends up being slightly darker and "richer" looking than the surrounding paint that's been exposed to the elements.

I would either cover up the affected areas with new stripes, or take your car to a professional detailer and have the entire car clay-barred, polished and sealed to even out the differences in the paint.

are you sure it is not residue left behind from the glue? Also it may be from the rest of the paint fading while the area with the stripes is still fresh. Also do you have photos you can post up?
Any case, I'd either paint the stripes on the hood if you are planning to keep the car for at least 5 years, or just put vinyl ones on if you are looking to trade it up (they usually get crappy after 3-4 years)

Wow... I would do what Scott Riqui said. Take it to a pro detailer and see what they can do, and if that doesn't work, put some stripes over it.

If I were a betting man, I would say your MINI was re-painted at some point, clear coated and then stripes were put on with out giving the clear coat enough time to cure......

I would check some other areas of the car for signs of a repaint.

I would second that, but I can't tell if those marks are below the surface or not. I think its crazy how these came up after you have had the car for a few months now
