Low beam too low

2009 MC and oddly enough I drove it last night in the dark for the first time. I seems that the low beam lights the road only in the lower half of the windscreen. Everythng above that is very dark. It is like there is a line across the windscreen with light below and nothing on top. When I hit a dip in the road I can only see about 10 feet in front of the car. High beams are fine and driving lights are great. This can't be normal can it?

Do you have Xenons/HID? When I purchased mine, they were adjusted outrageously low, so I had to raise them. This fixed the issue, and the light on the road is tremendous now.

Mine are just the standard lights. Thanks for the follow up as it tells me I just need to adjust them.

They can be adjusted by the owner. Be careful and use the right tool. One owner accidently stripped his adjustment screw and would need another headlight assembly (over $1k supposedly) as it is part of the whole unit. Make sure you have the car perfectly level and use an aiming chart if you can get one. Several persons have raised their too much and get warnings from oncoming cars, then they have to do it over.

My headlights do not go up with the bonnet. Is there room to get the adjustment via the wheel well. I haven't been out to look since it is snowing right now.

Make sure that you do your homework before you attempt to adjust your lights "up" correctly.

Jim,
When I had my 2008 MCSa with Bi-Xenon headlights the alignment was so out of whack from the factory that they were blinding oncoming traffic with just the low beams on.After nearly getting killed from several very angry drivers on the road I took my car in to have the headlights properly aligned. Why the car ever left the dealership that way I have no idea as I am sure they never tested them during PDI (pre-deliver inspection).

Personally I would have the Mini dealership properly align the headlights on your '09 MC.

Thanks, Jim, that is what I was thinking. If they tell me they are fine then I will take matters into my own hands.

It is good to hear that this is not the normal adjustment as I could not live with it if it was. It is surprising that it would not have been checked at some point prior to delivery. They installed the driving lights, so an adjustment of all lights just seems normal.

I had the same issue with my 07 of low lights. I went to the dealer and they adjusted them quickly. They told me it was pretty low tech and they parked the car at a certain place and pointed the lights to marks on the wall.

Lowered it? You must live in a very flat state.

sounds good...now I need to wait for a dry evening to park my car on a flat and dark road to adjust the lights.
