Automatic Climate Heat Setting 78 Degrees!

MCS 2006 10,000 miles.

In cold weather, below 35, I have to set the temperature at 78 to keep the car warm. Sometimes I have to set it up to 82 or on HI. The dealer ran the code test and said everything is fine.
Sometimes with the temperature set to 78 its warm but gets colder and I have to turn up the temperature to 82, then turn it down.
In my other cars if I set the tempeature to 78 we we will cook!
Anyone have problems like this with the automatic system?

I have no problems, but I run the auto system on manual, with only one 'wave' of blower turned on at 22ºC. The two vents are aimed at my hands. I usually have to turn it off after awhile because it gets too hot.

We've noticed something similar- we normally keep it on 72°F all the time, with an occasional bump to 74. But when it's below freezing, it doesn't seem to keep up as much as we'd like and my wife will bump it to 76 or 78 if it's _really_ cold outside.

I am not in a real cold climate but I never have to set over 70. Sometimes I have to wait a little while the temp on the engine comes up but that is easy to see with the ScanGuage. So once the water temp is over about 140 I have all of the heat I need.

BTW this is with the outside air temp around 20.

I have an 08 but have the same problem. Set at 72, blows lots of really warm, almost hot air, and then starts blowing cool to almost cold air. Dealer said it's normal - blows hot until inside temp reaches 72, then blows cool to keep it at 72 (like that makes any sense) - except I'm in my ski jacket and freezing.

I have an 09 and have the same exact issue. Always set the climate control to 72 on previous cars. The climate control in my MINI is definitely not working properly.

Seems, like this could be a problem on some cars. I did have a climate control problem on my Acura MDX when it was new and they upgraded the software. I wonder if the Mini system is software controlled?

I'm wondering whether if the inside temp. sensor is calibrated correctly. Also where the sensor is positioned in the dash I maybe its measuring the temp. of the radio and the type of music you're playing?

I put in a couple of digital thermometers in the car yesterday to measure the temperature to see what they read. This way I'll have some real comparative data.

I would hate to have to put a fireplace in the car to warm it up although that may explain why some people are reporting engine fires.

Seems like this maybe a problem on some cars. I wonder if the temp. sensor is the cause or if the system is software contolled and there is some bug? I had a climate control problem on my Acura MDX when it was new and it was fixed by a software update.

I installed a couple of digital thermometers in the car so I will have some comparative readings.

I wonder if the inside temp. sensor is actually measuring the ambient temp. or the temp. of the music that is playing in the radio which is just above? I'll have to try various types of music to see if that has an effect.

The temp sensors are in the HVAC panel - two small circles with horizontal slats on lower edge. If you had a friend nearby you could swap them, or they do come up on ebay now and again. Probably cheaper than a diagnosis from the dealer.

Mine was flakey at keeping the cabin at a constant temp.
When I did my radio swap I noticed the temp sensor on the back of the climate control panel was completely clogged with dust. Cleaned it all out and now it works great.
