2nd gear issues :(

Well this all started after installing a 15% pulley. As most of you know you have to raise the engine up quite a bit to do this. Could doing this have caused my linkage to bind up?

I ask this because I can not quik shift into second gear during a WOT run. If I baby the car and shift at 2500-3000rpm I can shift into second with no issues. But if I attemp to shift at anything over 6000rpm I can not even man handle the shifter into second.

Because this began after the pulley swap I assume I have bound linkage brought on by the engine shifting forward during hard driving. I will be adding all Powerflex bushings to the car next Monday.

Would it be safe to assume that rasing the engine up could of pulled the linkage tight? Also are there any clips that hold the linkage under the body of the car? If so then maybe I could take them loose and that will alow the linkage to move back into OEM specs them place the clips back on.

You could start by taking your airbox out and inspecting the shift cables under that. When I did my 15% pulley, I was told that there is enough slack in everything that the engine could be raised without any issues.

Just thought I'd ask this: do you guide the shifer with an open hand, or do you shift like you're mixing concrete?

Pop out your airbox and take a peek at the shift cable terminal connections(ball and socket) to the gearbox and make sure they are mounted securely to black plastic shift cable frame.

Pics below show N then 1st gear then 2nd gear selected.

Good luck with the powerflex install too!

Jeremy

Well I just went out for dinner and was very carefull about how I shifted into second and everything was fine. Rather than getting excited about the fast approaching redline I concintrated on gently pulling the shiter back into second by cuping my hand around the front of the shift **** and easing it back rather than a fist full of shifter and yanking it back.

How the cables are supported can be seen here.

Glad to hear it. Now shift like that all of the time and you won't have any synchro problems. I use my finger tips for 2nd, 4th, and 6th, and my palm for 1st, 3rd, and 5th. It take very little force to shift. On a side note, if you had a dog engagement instead of synchros, your forceful technique would work better.

Yea looks like it was just very poor driving on my end. That makes it better imo because I can correct myself fairly cheap
