Just arrived home from a 950 mi MINI road trip. Everything went really
well, really pleased overall. However, this is a new car, just 2800 miles.
About 4 miles from home the windshield moulding (around the windshield) at the top of windshield came off (about 2') & was flopping on top of car. I pulled over & managed to insert back on but not tight. The top corner of the glass seemed loose.
Has anyone else experienced a problem with this, and if so, what did you do? I am
4 hrs from dealership. I am thinking about just taking it to the nearest glass shop.
Also, the gas cap will not snap back properly. These things should not be happening on a new car. Whats next? I love the car so much I am willing to put up with a few minor negatives. However, we all have our limits.
Happy Motoring!

Even given my windshield saga (4 windshield so far) I haven't had the top molding come off. The bottom molding I have seen come unattached before though.

>> Dave: The molding did not come all the way off, just a 2 ft section. I am going to take it to a local glass shop Thurs. & have them take a look at it. When you say "4 windshields", do you mean broken due to rocks, etc., or factory defect?

This is a pretty common fault actually, it has come up several times over at MINI2. Your dealer should be able to fix it (under warranty of course!) pretty easily. However, keep a close eye on your windshield for cracks and/or leaks, as this could be an indication that the windshield is not mounted properly and could develop these secondary problems. Hope you get it fixed soon and with no fuss!

Thanks for imput. I just drove my CR MINI to a local glass shop that I am familar with & he pulled the moulding off the top, pumped in a little "some kinda glue" , stuck it back on, and said I am good to go. Better than new. No charge.

I heard of something similar happening, but it was attributed to the fact that the driver was driving at the mini max (124mph) for a while through the desert.

Had both side moldings/plastic shields separate simultaneously at 36,000 mi. Dealer said it was due to an improperly mounted, after market windshield. Have yet to have it looked at by a windshield dealer.
Any similar stories?
