Help, windows down and car unlocked...

This has happened twice now. I've parked and locked my MINI, only to find it the next morning unlocked and with the windows open. The first time this happened I thought that maybe I had failed to lock the car and that someone had gotten inside and set both windows to half mast. But othing inside had been disturbed so it was very odd. That happend about a week ago. Then on Monday while I was traveling my son called and said that both windows were all the way down. After finding my key he noticed that the car was not locked either. This time I'm sure that I locked it.

Has anyone else had this issue? Does it sound like a faulty relay? I live three hours from the dealer so finding the problem without taking the car in would be great.

Thanks for your help!

Yes I have. I recently had my windows tinted and was told not to use them for 3 days, only to find my windows down that evening. The next day (or so), I found the doors unlocked after I know I locked them the night before. I believe that it is the button on the remote being pressed while in my pocket by the rest of the "junk" in there. I was cleaning the mini's windows and heard the doors unlock, realizing that I had just leaned against the front fender. Two minutes later it relocked in the same fashion! This convinced me that it really wasn't the mini. My wife has the second remote in her purse along with lots of other loose stuff. All the shifting around has surely (at least once) done the same. I have since "removed" it from the bottom of her purse so it won't happen again.

Dont forget, after holding the unlock button for around 8 seconds the windows automatically go down.

There's lots of reports around here about windows which are possessed. I had ones which refused to stay up, stopped working entirely and wound themselves down when I wasn't looking. The dealer did a software upgrade on them and they haven't misbehaved since. (But they hadn't misbehaved before.)

Take your key out of your pocket when you go inside your home. You're probably pressing and holding the unlock button without knowing it while it is in your pocket.

Definitely been a victim of having a remote in the pocket and leaning against something and pressing a button.

Thanks for everyonel's replies.

It is not an issue of holding down a button on the remote. The remote was in my bag, 2000 miles away from the car. The spare key was in a drawer and was not the culprit. This happened both times over night.

Just Maybe?

Just had this issue occur today to me. I changed the battery in my remote size 2032 picked up at radio shack for $4.99 and so far so good. I will keep you posted as to what happens in the real near future.

Let's keep our fingers crossed as nobody seems to have ananswer other than reprogramming which doesn't really make any sense to me.

Well that was short lived. Woke this morning and Windows were down and sunroof open. Called NW Mini and got an AHH yes, sounds like something we have a program for. All Iknow is if the car doesn't duplicate the problem for them they had still better run the program.

8 hours to reprogram, must be nasty.

Oh well

Never seen a Mini take 8 hours to program, at most it's 2.5 hours. The new software/hardware that BMW has just released is very misleading, it says it has 8 hours remaining, but it's really not.

As for this issue, if you have a problem with the key activating in your pocket, it only takes 3 seconds for the window to start to drop, you can take the car to the dealer and they can deactivate the comfort access feature that allows this. They may charge you for this operation though.

According to NW Mini they have discover a fault with the actuator in the driver door. Luckily they had the part in stock required.

We'll see, currently running a non -s type loaner Automatic. I can see if you were completely worried about gas mileage it would be an option to the S- Type.

Well got Mini back today,

Here is the results,

"19079 Ran short test, found code B1214 driverlock Cylinder. Ran test plan. Found the problem is driver door latch. Need to replace door latch. replaced latch tested good. Upon replacing latch found the Bowden Cable coming apart making the door not unlock. After replacement all is tesing fine and working at this point"

That is off my work order from NW Mini. Of course I have parked in the carport, just to be certain the demons have been exorcized.

Dwnszd, if you are still around and was this expensive fix? I have an 08 with 60k, came out of friends home yesterday in driving rain storm, my windows were down and all inside soaked. Glad I took my laptop in with me. Its doing again now as Im sitting in the car even while driving. no pressure on key fob.
Thanks
