I get home from work today, and attempt to roll down the passenger side window. Nothing...

Actually, i can here the electrical relay, and the foot-well light dims a bit almost like something is jammed..

Obviously no auto-dip since the window wont move..

Anyone experience anything like this before?

What is it with window regulators? My last car ( vw GTI ) went through them like water. You'd think that collectively the automotive industry would have been able to figure these things out by now!

Had a similar issue with my car on the driver's side. Dealer said there was a worn spot in the motor armature and ordered a new one.

As a matter of fact, the car was supposed to go in today to get it fixed and I totally forgot about it :???: Crap...

I have this problem almost daily and need to take it in to be fixed, but in the meantime I've been resetting it by holding the window button up for ten seconds (with key in/on).

I'm with MINI USA. The problem you are experiencing sounds like a job for your MINI service center. We would be more than happy to contact your service center on your behalf. If you'd like us to do that, please give us a call at 866.ASK.MINI.

I had a similar problem:

my drivers side window quit working. Before it did go out completely, it would not go down but doing the dip reset (hold button UP for a few secs) got it going again, but only for about a week or so.

Had to have window motor and controller replaced (this was at around 12.5 k miles), problem solved.

That aside, almost from day 1 I had frequent problems requiring resetting of the window dipping function. There are periods when I have to do that almost every 2nd day, and periods where it only needs to be done about 2x / mo.

I have gotten into a habit now to always check the doors when leaving the car, to make sure the windows are properly closed - when the dip fails the window overlaps the trim, and there is a nice gap for rain to enter. Just a prudent precaution.

Not the best of electrical systems, but hey, it's a british car!

Had this fixed today. The folks at Mini Peabody ( MA ) replaced the window regulator and motor. Good as new.

This really is a good dealer as already voiced by many. They were extremely professional and kind as usual. I took a look at a JCW DS/Blk that they had in the showroom. Too bad they didnt have one for test driving.
Also took the opportunity to pick up a t-shirt and some oil filters.

I finally fixed the problem(malfunction in driver side window) yesterday.
My dealer had to order the parts and replace motor and whole regulator unit.
It took 2.5 hours to get this all job done.

My window suddenly stopped working which I believe the same as others, but I also have some concern about window dipping function. We know window dipping is not new in BMW, but I think something wrong with the system.
I still don't know the root cause of the whole issue whether it came from design or bad parts.

Please watch your window system !

same problem here. driver's side won't go down, and then a little while later after continuing to try it will finally go down. It only happens once in while, weird.

I have been having the same window ducking problem.Sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not. I always make sure the window ducks before I open the door. The passenger side will open and close with the window all the way up.The driver side will not. So I have to lower the window, close the door, raise the window, then open the door again. It usually works the second time. The windows don't do this all the time. But I know if I don't keep my eye on it I am sure one of us will sooner or later try to slam the drivers door shut with the window all the way up.I'm not positive the window will break, but I do not wish to explain this to Mini service. I just do not have the time right now to be without a car,nor do I have the time to spend running back and forth to the dealer. That's my story.Jay.

Hello,

Yesterday, the driver side window of my MCS stopped working. I've tried the window dip reset but to no avail. And I've had the window rattle ever since I got the car. Does anyone know the part numbers of the Driver Side Window Motor and Regulator? I have to order all of these parts from the states since we don't have a MINI dealer here in the Philippines.

Hope someone could help me out. Thanks!

I've got the exact same problem too! Driver's side window won't do nada. The sunroof and passenger window work as advertised. I wonder how much vacation time this is going to cost me. And to think I bought this to be a reliable way to get to work every day. It is a fun car, but burning vacation time to get a car that is less than a year old and only has 8K miles on it is NOT FUN!

Mahalo to everyone who followed up with the root cause of their problem. There seems to be a coorelation with water (rain) and window problems as well as unreliable motors and controllers. I hope BMW finds a long term fix for this as I don't want to spend so much time getting problems like this fixed.

johnD, my suggestion is that you call the folks at Classic Auto Campus (aka Classic MINI)...they're listed on the Sponsor Directory here on NAM...and ask about the part numbers. As a dealer, they can use the accurate BMW online manual to locate all of the necessary parts. Their prices are good, and they seem to ship everywhere. And I should note that you win the faith and optimism award for owning a MINI no where near a dealer. Where IS the closest dealer to you? Japan???

HawaiEE, my guess is that you're absolutely right. Water and MINI doors just don't mix We in the northeast are seeing the problems with this when that water freezes (and locks us both in and out of our cars). You're just seeing the problems when there's too much water in there and it shorts stuff out. Either way, a big pain. Carefree commuting car? Right....

Thanks for the suggestion jsun!
Well over here, you can find a lot of cars which are sold through the grey market, meaning no dealer, no service and no parts! But there are some shops who can service our cars, as for the parts, we order it from somewhere else.
