how bad the power steering has to be to get an warranty
my warranty ends at October, and the PS is making some noise, not too loud but noticeably louder than normal i think. you think mini would replace it if it's only little louder than normal?
bad, but can still be working
I had my pump replaced under warranty last year due to a loud grumbling noise (which could also be felt as a vibration in the floor). The steering never stopped providing assist, but the pump was clearly not healthy. MINI didn't argue a bit. I had previously disconnected the pump fan for a few minutes to rule that out as the noise, and I let them perform that check too, so they knew for sure where the issue was.
So if your noise is bad enough, take it in for a check. I just complained about excessive pump noise when I made the service appointment, and when I dropped it off I sat in the car with the technician and showed him exactly how to make the noise appear and what I thought it was. End result: new pump, no charge, happy MINI owner!
