Stupid TPMS Issue

Hey everyone I have an issue. My MINI IS EQUIPPED WITH THE bREAK STYLE tpms; not the valve stem system. I replaced my my stock wheels and tires and have 2,000 kilometers now(prob free) and the damn lite came on and wont go away. Does anyone know why.....The tires all have 36 psi in all 4. Will this void warranty, do I need to place the factory tires on before going to the dealer.... Im so angry because it wont go away. The tire warning lite is red which signals a tire issue. I simply cant deal with it as I use the digital display for the speedometer.
PLEASE HELP.

Hi Matty,

Check your owners manual.....there is a reset button you need to push next to the e-brake handle....this will clear the light for you....

Did you re-set the TPMS on the computer?

Check your manual, I thought all R56's came with tpms. If you have tpms then you need the sensors in the wheels.

That is partially incorrect. All R56s came with TPMS. The early build 2007 R56s had the old style TPMS. My Mini, Tug, was a week 11 or 12 build and he has the old style TPMS. If your car has rubber valve stems, you have the old style. If it has metal and the cap looks like a flying saucer, you have the new style. The difference is that the new style tells you which tire is flat, the old style tells you that you have a flat but not which one.

That is odd as my '08 MCSa production date is 2/27/08 and I have rubber valve stems with the silver "flying saucer" looking caps but the TPMS only tells me that a tire is low but not which tire.

They don't tell you which tire is flat/low the new style tpms measures a drop in air pressure. The old style measures tire rotation.

When you come to the computer screen where you reset the TPMS you have to push and hold it (the stalk). When it resets you will get a "check" mark. If you didn't get a "check" mark you did not reset it.

Make sure the car is not running for making resets.

man what a bummer! this actually just happened to me tonight

I seriously think someones messing with my car..

so if you reset it, and it doesn't come back right away, or at all.

Then the issue is fixed, correct?

I have no idea, all I know is the reset procedure. I would guess in the dealers eyes yes it would be fixed because what is there favorite line? Can't duplicate.

Yes it's fixed but you need to very carefull if you have not checked your tires. Resetting the tpms does just that, you are telling the computer that you have checked/adjusted your air pressure and to reset itself based on the current pressure.

I had mine come on about a week ago and instead of driving around with the warning I did reset right away. I checked my tires later that day after work and adjusted the air pressure then reset the tpms again. Once you set the computer to reset the tpms you need to drive it for about 3 minutes before the warning light goes out.

Alright, I made it back from Garmisch Germany today. After several "look throughs" of the book I finally found the reset....or...intializer method. I never new that ANYTIME you change you tires or Presures you have to go through this sequence. Lesson learned thanks for the good info!!!

Hmm... The service writer at my dealership explained that to me when I asked him about after market wheels and what I should avoid or what I would need to make it work properly so I took it as gospel. Sorry about that.

Not a problem since you followed up with the explanation.
