Lately when I turn the engine off after a run, engine makes this strange howling sound before it stops. It doesn't do it all the time but it is worrying. Can some one take a guess what it is before I take it to the dealer? :???:

If you've been driving hard (and you have an MCS), it could be the supercharger winding down, or it could be the power steering fan winding down.

Yeah, I often wonder what that houl is. I think Argo is right with the SC winding down. I kinda like it. Makes me feel like I drive a jet!

Since the SC is belt driven I doubt that is it. You are most likely hearing the power steering fan. Cool nonetheless.

If someone is riding with you asks just tell them it's your turbine spinning down and let them wonder.

I am not sure, but I think it is the cooling fan. The one to blow air over the radiator. The reason I say it is that is because if you are parked and have the car and a/c on, the fan will turn on after a minute in hot weather (because the car is at idle, no supercharger and since I am not turning (or been turning), the power steering fan is not possible). Just my thoughts.

If you hear a somewhat siren-like sound, it's the power steering pump you are hearing winding down. The way to tell? Give the wheel a sharp twist just after you shut off the engine and you will hear the pump sound immediately cease instead of slowing gradually. The pump is electrically driven and has some rotational mass, that's why it takes a moment to spin down,
